Primo compleanno - First birthday

Tanti auguri Arnau!

Ed eccoci qui a festeggiare il primo compleanno del campione, dopo mesi di continui miglioramenti.

Da quando abbiamo avuto il via libera dei medici, Arnau non ha smesso di esplorare il mondo e di fare nuove esperienze: è stato già due volte in Italia, ha preso i suoi primi aerei, è stato a Parigi e in giro per la Francia in macchina, ha provato le sue prime giostre a Eurodisney, è stato sui Pirenei a 2000 metri di altitudine, ha sguazzato in piscine in giro per mondo, i primi bagni al mare e la spiaggia, feste, matrimoni, il suo battesimo,...

Nel frattempo, anche grazie alle continue sessioni di fisioterapia e stimolazione, ha imparato a muovere sempre meglio le gambe, a sedersi, a gattonare, a mettersi in piedi e fare i primi passi.

E gli è venuto un caratterino niente male, forse un modo per difendersi dal fratellone e dire sempre la sua.

Ecco qui qualche foto degli ultimi mesi e un saluto da Arnau.

Happy birthday Arnay!

And here we are, celebrating the first year of our little champion, after months of ongoing improvements.

After getting the go-ahead from the doctors, Arnau has not stopped exploring the world and making new experiences: he's been twice to Italy, he took his first flights, he's been to Paris and around France by car, he's tried his first rides at Eurodisney, he's been on the Pyrenees at 2000 meters of altitude, he's enjoyed swimming pools around the world, beaches and waves in the Mediterranee, parties, weddings, his own baptism...

Meanwhile, also thanks to the ongoing physiotherapy and stimulation sessions, he's learnt to move his legs better and better, to sit, to crawl, to stand and make the first few steps.

And he put up a pretty strong character, maybe as a way to defend himself from his big brother and have his own way.

Festeggiando 6 mesi (e 8 chili!) - Celebrating 6 months (and 8kg!)

6 mesi per il piccolo grande Arnau, che continua a migliorare e a crescere come un campione (ha appena passato gli 8 chili).
Auguri!
Niente di meglio che festeggiarlo con la prima domenica mattina in spiaggia della stagione.
Cielo azzurro, un sole fantastico, ancora non troppo caldo, mare freschino ma pronto per i bagni... Arnau ha apprezzato l'esperienza spiaggia da sotto l'ombrellone e giocato con i piedini nella sabbia.
Un saluto a tutti e un paio di foto recenti del piccolo Arnau, una con il fratellone Luca in un tranquillo sabato mattina in camera, e una in giro per il mondo.

6 months for our little Arnau, who keeps improving and getting bigger by the day (just passed the 8kg mark).

Nothing better than celebrating with our first Sunday morning at the beach of the season.
Blue sky, a fantastic sun shining, not to hot yet. Water chilly but not too bad to start swimming and playing with the waves. Arnau really enjoyed the new beach experience under the big umbrella, playing with the sand with his little feet.

Quasi 5 mesi ... Almost 5 months

Arnau ha quasi 5 mesi e se potesse parlare direbbe che continua a migliorare, che faceva freddo durante la risonanza magnetica la settimana scorsa e avrebbe volentieri evitato l'anestesia ma che é contento che il risultato sia positivo, che sta imparando a conoscere un sacco di giochi nuovi, che si diverte col suo fratellone e che non vede l'ora di andare a fare una mini vacanza per Pasqua.

Arnau is almost 5 months old and if he could talk, he'd tell you that he keeps improving, that the MRI last week was very cold and he would have gladly skipped another anesthetic but he is happy that the results were positive, that he's learning to play with lots of new toys, that he enjoys being around his big brother and that he's looking forward to a mini vacation for Easter.

E bravo Arnau! - Good job Arnau!

Settimana intensa, 4 medici (due neurologi, un oftalmologo, un pediatra), di cui 3 nuovi per Arnau... e tutti e 4 positivamente stupiti dalle sue ottime condizioni.
La neurologa quasi non credeva alla cartella clinica e a tutto ció che le raccontavamo della brutta avventura di Arnau, vedendolo in cosí buona forma: rideva, faceva suoni, manteva l'attenzione a lungo, seguiva oggetti perfettamente, manteva lo sguardo, seguiva suoni, reggeva la testa in varie posizioni, ... tutto benissimo!
Continuiamo cosí!
Ah, dimenticavamo... nel frattempo Arnau ha raggiunto i 6 chili.
Eccolo qui.

Intense week, 4 doctors (2 neurologists, 1 ophtalmologist, 1 pediatrician), 3 of them seeing Arnau for the first time... and all four of them positively surprised by his excellent conditions.
The neurologist could not believe that Arnau went through all that, considering how well he was behaving: he smiled, made noises, kept his attention for long periods of time, perfectly followed moving objects and sounds, kept his head straight in many positions... everything perfect!
Let's keep improving like that!
BTW, we were almost forgetting... Arnau is now more than 6kg.

Muy buenas noticias. Very good news.

Estamos muy contentos. Muy pero que muy contentos. Ya veíamos que Arnau iba bien, mejoraba mucho... pero esta semana hemos tenido confirmación: Arnau ve perfectamente!
Por la lesión y la situación de la hemorragia, podría haber afectado a la vista... pues después de la visita con la oftalmólogo, todo está bien e incluso nos han dado el alta de oftalmología!! Perfecto, una cosa menos ;-)

We are happy, really really happy. We notice that Arnau was getting better and that he could see... but we got the confirmation: Arnau is OK!
He could have bad sight because of the blood situation... but everything is OK!
Perfect! We won't have to worry about it!

Terzo complimese! Three-month birthday today!

Terzo mese oggi per Arnau. Auguri!
Senza grandi festeggiamenti, ma un giorno intenso, a cominciare dalla sessione di stimulazione (una sessione iniziata con grande energia ed entusiasmo, per poi passare a esercizi piú difficili che hanno fatto arrabbiare Arnau.. alla fine, pace con l'istruttrice e un arrivederci alla prossima settimana).
Domani prima visita con il neurologo del centro di stimulazione, e giovedí visita oculistica per vedere un po' piú scientificamente se ci sono possibili problemi alla vista, al campo visuale, etc...
Per ora, buona notte Arnau (eh sí, dorme giá tra 6 e 7 ore di seguito, anche se continua 100% col latte della mamma).

Third month for Arnau today. Happy 3-month birthday!
No big party today, but an intense day, which started with a stimulation session (a good session today, with lots of energy and enthusiam in the first part, followed by some tough exercise which upset our little Arnau... at the end, reconciliation with the instructor and a good bye to next week).
Tomorrow, first visit with the neurologist, then on Thursday visit to the ophthalmologist to get some more scientific data on potential vision issues.
For now, good night to Arnau, who's now sleeping up to 6-7 hours straight, even if he continues to eat 100% maternal milk.

Qualche settimana dopo... A few weeks later...

Rieccoci!

Sono passate ormai 3 settimane dell'ultimo update e tutto prosegue bene.
Arnau continua ad imparare un sacco di cose e a migliorare. Segue sempre meglio oggetti e persone, anche senza l'aiuto di suoni. Riesce a comunicare molto bene con sorrisi e suoni, quando é rilassato.
Riesce a rimanere concentrato per lunghi periodi.

Arnau pesa giá 5.7kg!

Anche noi genitori continuiamo ad imparare trucchi del mestiere ed esercizi da fare poi a casa, accompagnando Arnau una volta alla settimana a un centro di stimulazione. Le ultime due sessioni sono state perfette, Arnau era riposato e molto sveglio ed ha interagito con l'istruttrice per quasi tutta la sessione.

Here we are again!

Three weeks have passed since the last update and everything is going well.
Arnau keeps learning a lot of things and is constantly improving.
He's getting better and better at following objects and faces, even without the help of sounds. He can communicate quite well with smiles and sounds, especially when he's relaxed.
His attention span is quite good.

Arnau is now already 5.7kg!

We also, as parents, keep learning many tricks of the trade and exercises that we can do at home, by taking Arnau once a week in a center specialized in development and stimulation for young kids.
The last 2 sessions were perfect, Arnau was awake and relaxed and he interacted with the instructor for almost the entire session.
